Having lived in the village for 14 years, and having read Louise Kenyon's book on Great Waldingfield, Michael Stone developed an interest in updating the Village History, with particular reference to the last 100 years or so, and ideally making use of the many photographic records that will have been amassed over that period.

Over the Christmas period Michael issued a general invitation for anyone interested to come along to his business premises next to the Village Shop on the 15th of January so that he could gauge the level of interest and start to co-ordinate efforts. About 25 people called in on the day, and it became clear that it would be possible to write a book in chapters covering various aspects of the village, such as the church, the school, industry, leisure and commerce. There were also many interesting anecdotes: "he tried to burn the school down!", "Nurse Daniels! I was the biggest baby she delivered!", and so on...

There was a lovely photograph, printed in The Times in 1935, of the church viewed across the fields from Lavenham Road, and a faithfully maintained Village Scrapbook, kept since it was donated to the WI at the time of the Coronation.

There are probably quite a few people around who have some very interesting stories to tell, especially the village "elders", and Michael would be very interested to talk to anyone willing to spare a bit of time, possibly using a tape recorder to capture people's words for greater accuracy.
